Join the Art & Craft Department, Indigenous Students Association, OIE, and Center for Working Lands in welcoming Eastern Band of Cherokee (EBCI) Artists for an Artist Talk & Panel Discussion. 

Meet us in Canon Lounge on Thursday (3/26) from 4:30-5:30 to hear from EBCI basket Artists, Betty Maney, Mary Thompson and Dewi Thompson, about their craft and the importance of material and cultural knowledge of basket weaving to the Eastern Band of Cherokee. We will learn what this craft mean to them, what they enjoy about the craft, what they learn from the land and materials, such as Rivercane and White Oak, and how this connects to themes of generational knowledge, care and sustainbility practices in the vast cultural setting of the Appalachian region and Cherokee country.
