In this keynote, Kamal Bell traces the deep roots and enduring legacy of Black farming in America, from the historical foundations that shaped the land and food systems we inherit today to the vibrant and visionary work being done by Black farmers, cooperatives, and communities right now. Drawing on threads of resistance, sovereignty, and collective care, this talk explores what it means to farm as an act of reclamation, how heirloom seeds and oral histories carry culture and knowledge forward, and what the future of Black farming can look like when rooted in community, cooperation, and justice.
